Cosign Bail Bond—Albuquerque

A cosigner is someone who takes financial liability to ensure the defendant’s appearance in court. At Help Bail Bonds, we require certain qualifications to be met before we approve a bond. These qualifications depend on the amount of money required to bail your loved one out of jail.

What is Required to Cosign an Albuquerque Bail Bond?
At Help Bail Bonds, we ask that specific requirements be met before we approve a bail bond. For a $500 bond, for example, we generally require the following:

  • You have been at your job at least one year
  • You can provide proof of employment (check stubs)
  • You are a New Mexico resident
  • You can provide proof of ID
  • You are over the age of 21

If your loved one needs a $100,000 for a felony bond, we may require you to put up your property as collateral. Since larger bonds present considerable risk to us as bail securities agents, we have to ensure that we will be paid in the event that your friend or family member does not appear for his or her court date.

What Do You Charge?
Bail bondsmen are required to charge a 10% premium on all bail bonds, as mandated by New Mexico State law. This fee is non-refundable, no matter the outcome of the case. At Help Bail Bonds, you can obtain a bail bond with as little as 3% down.

What if My Loved One Skips Bail?
Since bail acts as insurance that your loved one will make his or her court appearance, if he or she does not show in court, you—as the cosigner—may be liable for the full bail bond amount. This is because when the defendant appears for all court dates as promised, the court releases the bail bondsmen of these obligations. If the defendant does not appear in court, however, we are not given the bail amount back. In such a case, we may enlist a fugitive recovery officer to locate the defendant. (The cosigner may be liable for the fees involved in employing the bounty hunter.) The bail system functions as a method to ensure that your loved one appears in court while also allowing him or her the freedom of being out of jail for the length of his or her court dates.
